CTP plate price explained: grade, size, thickness and volume drive the quote. Learn to compare…

Quick answer: CTP plate price depends on grade (single-layer, double-layer or processless), sheet size and thickness, monthly volume and destination — not on a single per-kilo number. The figure that matters is cost per good impression. Send your size list and volume for a firm written quote: request a quote.

What drives CTP plate price

Quotes vary because plates vary. Grade: a double-layer coating costs more than single-layer; processless chemistry costs more than standard thermal. Size and thickness: plates are aluminium sold by area — a 1030 × 800 mm plate and a 650 × 550 mm plate are different products. Volume: coating runs and freight amortise better at monthly volumes than at one-pallet orders. Destination: freight to your port is part of a landed price.

Price by grade and size

Indicative structure, from our quoting practice: single-layer thermal sits at the base of the range; double-layer adds a modest premium for its second coating; processless sits above both because of the chemistry; CTcP tracks single-layer thermal. Within a grade, price scales with area and thickness. Any supplier quoting one flat number for all grades and sizes is averaging something — ask what is inside the average. Grade detail: thermal, CTcP, full range.

Calculating cost per impression

The cheapest plate does not save money — the cheapest good impression does. The arithmetic: plate price divided by the impressions it survives on your press, plus remakes. A plate that costs 10% less but scums partway through a long run and costs you a remake plus press time loses to the plate that runs clean to 80,000. Run length, your ink and paper, and baking all move the divisor, which is why trial plates on your own press precede any volume decision. Our cost calculator sets up the comparison.

How to get a firm quote

  1. Send your plate size and thickness list, current grade and monthly usage.
  2. Tell us your ink (conventional, UV/LED-UV, coldset) — it can change the recommended grade.
  3. Give your destination port for a landed price.
  4. Ask for trial plates with the quote so you can verify before committing.

That is the whole process — request a quote or trial plates to start.

FAQ

How much does a CTP plate cost?

It depends on grade, size, thickness and volume; send your size list for a firm price.

Why do prices vary so much between suppliers?

Grade, coating quality, size mix and what is included (freight, cutting, packing) differ. Compare landed cost per impression, not headline price.

Disclaimer: price structures are indicative; the written quotation governs. Figures and descriptions are typical, for reference only, and not a guarantee.
