Plate Punching Machine
Last updated: October 2026
Quick answer: A plate punching machine punches the register holes that lock an offset plate onto the press cylinder. CTPPress punching machines are pneumatic (a compressed air supply is needed), use photoelectric (CCD) registration for repeatable hole position, and are configured to your press’s punch pattern and plate size. Bending can be added. Made at our factory — see our factory.
What does a plate punching machine do?
Offset presses locate each plate on the cylinder through punched register holes. Punch position accuracy decides whether plates hang correctly, register quickly and print without slack. A dedicated punching machine replaces hand drilling and template jigs: the plate is positioned optically, and the punch fires at the same coordinates every time — so every plate in a job, and every repeat order after that, hangs identically.

Punch and register systems
Every press family has its own punch pattern — hole spacing, diameter and position relative to the plate edge. Our machines are configured to your pattern: send your press make and model (or a sample punched plate) and we set the die accordingly. For plate bending — folding the plate’s leading edge so it clamps into the cylinder gap — a combined punch-and-bend unit handles both operations in one pass.
Choosing a punching machine
The key variables are plate size range, punch pattern, and whether you need bending. Buyers sometimes assume any punch machine fits any press — it does not; the die must match your register system exactly, which is why we ask for your press model before quoting. Photoelectric positioning keeps accuracy stable across operators and shifts, and it is the feature that pays for itself in faster make-readies.

FAQ
Can you match my press’s hole pattern?
Yes — send the press make and model or a sample plate, and we configure the die to match.
Is bending included?
Combined punch-and-bend configurations are available; tell us your plate type and press.
